Kari C. Toverud has won many awards both in Norway and internationally.

2006 Det Friske og Det Syke Mennesket (The Healthy and the Diseased Person), Akribe Publishing Company , a 6-volume textbook, won «Certificate of Merit» in the category «Medical book: Nursing /Allied Health Professionals» at the Association of Medical Illustrators meeting in Boston, Mass. USA.

2006 Det Friske og Det Syke Mennesket (The Healthy and the Diseased Person), Akribe Publishing Company, a 6-volume textbook, won 2nd place in the class «Textbooks» in the competition This years most beautiful books sponsored by the Norwegian Graphic Arts and illustrator association (GRAFILL). The jury’s comment read "enormously extensive material presented with instructional illustrations and neat design" Oslo, Norway.

2005 Det Friske og Det Syke Mennesket (The Healthy and the diseased person), Akribe Publishing Company , a 6-volume textbook, won «Award for Design Excellence» by The Norwegian Design Council ORD (NDC) The jury’s comment read "In pedagogical terms, this is an innovative medical textbook in six volumes. What is new is that there are two books within one cover, where a shared folder contains two spiral-bound books dealing with parallel topics: one presents the healthy human body and its functions, while the corresponding illnesses are presented on the opposite side. This encourages learning and is further supported by the specially developed illustrations and the nice logo photo of a healthy wooden doll with a "sick" shadow. This is a textbook with a clear, classic layout that inspires students to learn". Oslo, Norway.

2000 the Swedish "Lidman Prize for 2000" The jury's comment read "This award is for extensive medical illustrations and a unique capacity to visualize and simplify complicated physiological processes while maintaining a strong sense of the graphic and narrative totality". Ord och Bild Akademin (The Swedish Academy of Verbovisual Communication) Stockholm, Sweden.

1993 The book "Den forunderlige kroppen" (The Amazing Body) by E. Dietrich, P. Hurlen and K. C. Toverud was nominated for the Norwegian "Bragepris" (Brage Prize) award in the category «Textbooks». This book is now in it's 3rd edition and has sold over 140 000 copies as of 2006. The 1st edition has been translated into 8 different languages including Japaneese. Oslo, Norway.

1993 Menneskets Fysiologi (Human Physiology) won «Illustrated Book Award» in the category «Medical book: Nursing /Allied Health Professionals» at the meeting of the Association of Medical Illustrators in Denver, Colorado USA.

1992 Menneskets Fysiologi (Human physiology) won the Tano Aschehoug non-fiction award, Oslo, Norway.

1988 The book "Den forunderlige kroppen" (The Amazing Body) won «Illustrated Medical Book Award» in the category «Medical book: Nursing /Allied Health professionals» at the meeting of the Association of Medical Illustrators in San Diego, California, USA. This textbook has been translated into 8 different languages including Japanese and English.
